Overview:


In this article, we’ll walk you through how to install PFX Utilities, followed by an overview of what you’ll find inside each tab to help resolve common software issues.

Section 1: Installation & Initial Setup

  1. From your Start Menu, search for "Company Portal."


     2. Inside the Company Portal, search for "PFX Utilities."


3.Click "Install".


  1. Desktop Shortcut: Once complete, two shortcuts will be downloaded to your desktop.

    • Note: You should always click the Admin Shortcut to ensure the utility has the necessary permissions to run repair





Section 2: Tab-by-Tab Feature Guide


Excel Tab

  • Fix toolbars & general excel problems: Resets Excel if corrupted in memory and performs a basic reset of the Engagement tab. Saves work before running, as this force closes Excel.

  • Instructions to fix PPC password protection: Guidance for password-protected errors.

  • Install latest PPC tools: Opens the setup program for the latest updated checklists.


Word Tab


  • Repair startup: Fixes issues where Word workpapers fail to open from Engagement.

  • Restore epace: Replaces "espace" templates if they are reported as corrupt or missing.


Adobe Acrobat Tab



  • Fix acrobat: Resolves issues where PDFs fail to open from a binder.

  • Replace/Stage tickmarks: Updates or restores customized S+H tickmarks. Note: Staging requires a VPN or office connection.

  • Set acrobat as default: Restores Acrobat as the primary PDF handler (useful after Windows updates).


CCH PFX Engagement Tab


  • Fix engagement startup: Resets services if the program won't start or the database isn't found.

  • Clear sync Queue: Forcibly clears stuck or failed synchronization jobs.

  • Update/Stage files: Reinstalls or updates Engagement. Note: Staging files WILL NOT work across a VPN.

  • Clear shared fileroom data: Flushes caches if you cannot see a host computer in a shared room.


CCH Axcess Tax Tab



  • Fix tax startup: Clears memory and resets services if Axcess fails to load.

  • Remove corrupt forms: Clears the DCS cache so the program can download clean forms.

  • Update/Uninstall: Runs the Axcess IUManager for software maintenance.


Fixed Asset Manager (FAM) Tab


  • Install/Stage latest version: Prompts for a 2-digit tax year to install or stage local files.

  • Display upgrade instructions: Launches the guide for transferring "REPORTS" and "CLIENTS."
