Overview:
Microsoft is replacing the legacy Remote Desktop client with the new Windows App, a modern, unified tool for accessing your work desktop, applications, and cloud resources from anywhere.
Important: The Remote Desktop client will reach end of support on March 27, 2026. After this date, it will no longer receive updates or security fixes. To maintain reliable and secure access to firm resources, users must transition to Windows App.
Windows App provides a simpler experience by bringing all assigned virtual work desktops and remote applications into one place.

Installing the client:
- Launch Company Portal through the Start Menu or your Desktop shortcut
- Search for Windows App or select through the Featured Apps
- Select Install
Opening Windows App Resources
- Open the Start Menu
- Search for Windows App
- Select the app from the results
- The home screen will open
First Login
Signing in connects the app to your work account and loads the desktops and apps assigned to you
- Once opened you will be prompted with the Welcome screen. You will select Next to proceed through the setup screen before accessing your assigned Remote resources.
- Enter your Smith + Howard email address
- Enter your password
- Complete multi-factor authentication (MFA) when prompted
- Workspace will then load

IF there are not any resources present, ensure that you are signed in with your Smith + Howard credentials
Navigating the Windows App
After you sign in, select between the Favorites, Devices, or Apps tab to show your remote resources from Azure Virtual Desktops to Remote Applications that have been assigned to you.
Resources may include:
- A full remote desktop
- Individual work applications
- Cloud PC or virtual machine
- Other assigned environments
Select from the resources available in the Windows App, when prompted enter your credentials, and the resource will launch a virtual instance on your workstation
